Algorand Foundation Unveils Aid Trust Portal To Track Aid

Key Highlights

  • Algorand Foundation launches the Aid Trust Portal to track how aid money is moving in real time
  • It is estimated that nearly 30% of all humanitarian aid is lost to inefficiency or diversion before it ever gets to the people who need it most
  • It is already used by the UN in partnership with HesabPay

On September 9, the Algorand Foundation announced the launch of the Aid Trust Portal, which is an on-chain platform “to track and visualize humanitarian aid payments.”

This free-to-use website allows everyone, such as donors, charities, or the public, to see exactly how aid money is moving in real time. From the original donor all the way to a recipient in a disaster zone or war-torn region, such as the Middle East.

This platform will solve a major problem in the aid industry. Traditional systems for sending money are often slow, expensive, and opaque.

It is estimated that nearly 30% of all humanitarian aid is lost to inefficiency or diversion before it ever gets to the people who need it most. The new portal uses the unchangeable nature of blockchain to create a transparent and permanent record of every transaction.

How the Aid Trust Portal Works

The platform, available at aidtrust.io, works like a super-powered tracking system for aid money. It uses interactive maps and graphs to show the relationships between different organizations and how funds flow between them.

For the first time, a compliance officer at a major charity or a government regulator can visually trace a donation as it travels through the system. This “spectrum of trust” makes it immediately clear which channels are reliable and which might be problematic, helping to stop funds from disappearing into the wrong hands.

The technology behind it is the Algorand blockchain, chosen because it is incredibly fast, cheap to use, and transactions cost less than a penny. This will be more energy efficient.

Real-World Impact in the Most Challenging Places

Experts believe that this is not just a theoretical tool, as it is already being put to the test in some of the world’s most difficult environments.

HesabPay is an important partner of the Algorand Foundation, which is a digital payment platform that operates in Afghanistan and Syria. In Afghanistan, where over 24 million people face severe hunger, getting aid through traditional banks is nearly impossible.

HesabPay uses the Algorand blockchain to deliver cash directly to people’s mobile phones. The Aid Trust Portal then allows groups like the World Food Programme to watch those deliveries happen live, which ensures that the help gets through.

The system has also been used successfully in disaster response. After a pilot program in 2024, aid was delivered to survivors of hurricanes in Florida and Mississippi within 24 hours. This bypasses the usual bureaucratic delays.

This Algorand aid platform will transform humanitarian aid in Gaza and war-torn regions, ensuring transparent, secure, and rapid fund delivery.

A Big Movement for Transparency

The Aid Trust Portal is the result of years of work and growing partnerships between blockchain developers and the humanitarian world. The Algorand Foundation co-founded the Humanitarian Payments Council with other big names like Circle and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to advise on how to best use this technology.

Other projects, like the Kare Survivor Wallet developed with the American Red Cross, have already used Algorand’s blockchain to get aid directly to earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria, with every penny accounted for.
